Members of A 01 embarked on a field trip to Chira Island in the Gulf of Nicoya along the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, together with representatives of the Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica and the United Nations Development Programme (UNPD).
The goal of the journey is to identify projects that can help to stimulate a positive economic change on the remote island, create employment, improve access conditions, infrastructure and the built environment. Currently, access to and from the island is limited to small boats only, which makes, for example, the transportation of construction materials or garbage management a difficult task.
The financing of the projects can be supported through the Small Donations Fund by UNDP with a thematic focus on three core areas: (1) the conservation of biodiversity, (2) land degradation and (3) climate change.
